Zingg and Pynkosi on Opera Atelier

2006, Entertainment

Marshall Pynkosi and Jeannette Zingg talk about their founding of Opera Atelier and their study of Baroque opera. Opera Atelier is a Toronto-based music theatre company that performs pieces from the 17th and 18th century. Each performance is accompanied by a period opera. Marshall discusses the evolution of music theatre production and the beginning and rise of Opera Atelier’s philosophy. It is their mission to “ravish the senses” and engage the audience emotionally, he says. It is not about what the actor feels, it is about what the actor makes the audience feel. Later, Jeanette proves that performance can be both profound and simply beautiful.
