Shin Kubota sings a song of jellyfish

2013, Animals
Presented By: Shin Kubota

The irrepressible Shin Kubota, Associate Professor at Kyoto University, pre-eminent expert on the Turritopsis dohrnii, the Immortal Jellyfish, is also a karaoke enthusiast.  He sometimes sings his own compositions. Such is the case when, after he bemoans that there is no time left to sing at the end of his presentation, and waves a CD of his songs to drive the point home, presenter Moses Znaimer grants the professor a crooning extension. And so Shin Kubota launches into an a capella rendition of two of the three choruses of his jellyfish song, one of them being male and the second female, for which his voice climbs into a higher register, much to the amusement of the audience. He manages to do a mid-song pirouette to boot, and gets the audience clapping and laughing with delight.
