Rick Smolan documents Big Data and you

2013, Cultural Studies, Science & Technology
Presented By: Rick Smolan

Photographer and prodigious producer of huge photography projects with global reach that become stunning best-seller coffee table books, Rick Smolan set his sights on documenting Big Data and its role in every aspect of our lives – in essence capturing the human face of data. The planet is developing a nervous system with the myriad of interconnected channels through which digital information flows these days, generating 5 billion gigabytes of new data every two days.  In the process, humans and machines leave a vast treasure trove of digital exhaust behind them, and it is extremely valuable. Rick Smolan raises the difficult questions: who owns, who controls the data we generate, and who may share it, withhold it, use it, trade it, sell it, profit from it?
