Richard Greenblatt on Conflict and Truth in Drama

2005, Entertainment
Presented By: Richard Greenblatt

Co-founder of 2 Pianos 4 Hands Richard Greenblatt discusses his newest work and truth in drama. To complement his talk, he performs two songs and a monologue. Lacing a story with real-life events doesn’t make its truth more accessible, he argues. Instead the flexible formula for exposing truth through storytelling is “communicating the specificity of life with honesty” and manipulating it just enough to give others room to connect. Richard believes that as a storyteller it is important to distinguish between fact and truth. Perhaps, he says, it is our obsession with fact that prevents us from uncovering truth.
