Chris Landreth on Psychorealism

2005, Art & Design, Cultural Studies
Presented By: Chris Landreth

Oscar winner Chris Landreth discusses film and psychorealism. It is through the pursuit of photo-realism that the emotional and inventive quality of popular animation has become one-dimensional, Chris says. He argues that instead of using animation as a substitute for real life, it can be used to explore new dimensions of it. Chris discusses the concept of psychorealism and briefs us on its purpose: to make the psyche visible, to embrace our brokenness. Chris plays a clip of his Academy Award-winning film, Ryan. Prepare to pause in its tender beauty.
