Songs from Schwartz’s: The Musical

As part of its 2010-11 season, Montreal’s Centaur Theatre Company proudly premiered Schwartz’s: The Musical, the much-awaited musical inspired by Bill Brownstein’s popular book, “Schwartz’s Hebrew Delicatessen: The Story”. Comedy duo extraordinaire George Bowser & Rick Blue bring the colourful story to life with a full cast of larger-than-life characters who call Schwartz’s “home,” and some of the many customers who pass through its doors. Schwartz’s:The Musical celebrates the eccentric side of Schwartz’s with lots of humour, wit and heart, while grappling with such issues as the smoked meat and pastrami debate, the food police, the measure of success in tumultuous times and the dreaded F-word: franchise!

In its twice-extended sold-out run, Schwartz’s:The Musical as had audiences roaring with laughter to songs about Montrealers’ devotion to the deli meat, the Main, the Jewish origins of smoked meat, Toronto and its merits, cheapness and “schmutz”!

Due to popular & critical acclaim, Roy Surette, Schwartz’s:The Musical’s director and Centaur’s Artistic and Executive Director had fun, once-again with the original, multi-talented cast of 11 actors and musicians for a three-week limited remount from the summer of 2011.
