Siwan Anderson



Siwan Anderson is an economist and a member of the Institutions, Organizations and Growth Program at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). Her main area of research interest focuses on the lives of women in the poorest regions of the world.

Recently, Anderson has been studying the “missing women” phenomenon, which relates to the determinants of excessive female deaths throughout the world.

Her other projects includes the study of dowry inflation in India, the ways women come together to share savings in African slums and the widespread phenomenon of marriage payments.

Anderson is also an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia, an affiliate of the Bureau of Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD) and a faculty associate of the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies.

In the past, she has held research positions at the University of Melbourne in Australia and the University of Namur in Belgium.
