Shanna Swan

With over 25 years of research and experience in her field, Shanna Swan is constantly striving to better understand how the tens of thousands of chemicals in our environment affect us over time. Through her studies at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Deptartment of Preventative Medicine, she explores both the impact of certain chemicals over time, and the effect of “endocrine disrupting” chemicals – those that our bodies might confuse with our own hormones – can have on our health.

Working with scientists across a range of disciplines (epidemiologists, toxicologists and geneticists, to name just a few), Dr. Swan has devoted her career to examining the complex relationship that humans have developed with the increasingly synthetic world around them. She scrutinizes everything from the food we ingest to the air that we breathe, in the hopes of revealing not only their effect on us from conception to old age, but also the ways in which potential damage might be mitigated.
