Raffaello D’Andrea is a recognized expert in the development and application of tools for controlling complex dynamical systems.

After receiving his Ph.D. in the Division of Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology in 1997, he joined Cornell University of New York, where he is currently a professor in the College of Engineering. He is also an Engineering Fellow of Systems Architecture at Kiva Systems. The Boston area high-tech company has developed a revolutionary material handling system that utilizes hundreds of fully autonomous mobile robots. D’Andrea was the faculty advisor and system architect of the Cornell Robot Soccer Team, four time world champions at the international RoboCup competition in Sweden, Austria, Italy and Japan.

D’Andrea received a Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering in 2002 for his “Theoretical and Experimental Advances in the Robust Control of Feedback Systems.” His work has been featured on Scientific American Frontiers and the Discovery Channel, at the Smithsonian, the Tech Museum of Innovation, and the Spoleto Festival.
