Nancy White

Nancy White

Canadian singer-songwriter Nancy White’s topical, satirical songs were heard on CBC’s public affairs radio program Sunday Morning for almost twenty years.

White, a native of Prince Edward Island, first dipped her toe into musical comedy while studying English at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Thus began a career of touring and recording her own songs, which range from political comedy to cabaret to occasionally more serious folk music.  In the late 70s she sang for a time with the Toronto Latin-Greek band Companeros. Her album Momnipotent: Songs for Weary Parents, was a huge hit for frustrated caregivers everywhere.

In 2005, White co-wrote the musical Anne and Gilbert, based on the Lucy Maud Montgomery novels, with Bob Johnston. White and Johnston, a comedic pianist, continue to tour together, and White also regularly performs with her daughters, The White Sisters.
