Michael Kaeshammer

Michael Kaeshammer

Among the brightest stars on the Canadian jazz scene is Michael Kaeshammer, award-winning singer, songwriter and piano player.

Kaeshammer trained as a classical pianist in his native Germany before turning to boogie-woogie piano, the style for which he has become famous. While Kaeshammer’s fiery style incorporates elements of his early influences – the New Orleans sound of Fats Waller, Art Tatum and James Booker – he also takes his cue from one of his own all-time favourite records, Robert Palmer’s Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley, recorded in New Orleans with influential local funk outfit, The Meters, in 1974.

Kaeshammer is best known in Canada but tours extensively throughout the US and Europe. He has seven albums to his credit and continues to amaze live audiences with his astounding energy and his command of a staggering array of jazz forms. Kaeshammer has won three West Coast Music awards and has been nominated for three Junos.
