Michael Bate is the editor of Frank magazine, a gossipy newsprint bi-weekly that provides grist for the rumour mill in Canadian political, entertainment and media circles.

Although Bate has worked for The Nelson Daily NewsThe Kamloops SentinelThe Ottawa Citizen,Canadian Press and CBC Radio, he has held a variety of non-journalism-related career positions over the years.

He spent the 1970s playing pedal steel guitar with various country bands and worked as a front-end brakeman with the CNR out of Jasper, Alberta. Bate also helped to create the World’s Worst Film Festival and pursued a career designing computer games with Artech Entertainment before joining Frankland Capital Corporation in 1989 and becoming editor of Frank in 1991.
