Matthew Diffee

Matthew Diffee

Since 1999, Matthew Diffee has been the funny man behind 150 thought-provoking political cartoons found in The New Yorker.

He was recently singled out by the New York Times as one of the most prolific of the new generation of cartoonists and his subtle yet laughable material allows him to put the “fun” in “fundamentalism.” For art that was too risqué even for NYC magazine stands, Diffee edited two popular compilations, The Rejection Collection: Cream of the Crap and Cartoons You Never Saw and Never Will See in The New Yorker. When asked if his cartoons can save the world, Diffee says, “I don’t think I’m saving the world at all. No, I think, you know, at the most I’m getting half a smile off a guy on the subway when he’s reading his New Yorker.”

Matthew Diffee first double-majored in Art and Missions but soon switched to Visual Art and graduated from South Carolina’s Bob Jones University. Diffee entered and won a cartoon contest, drawing the recognition and praise of cartoon editor Bob Mankoff.
