Martin Parnell



Martin Parnell was born in 1955 in Devonshire, England. He attended the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall and, after achieving his degree, travelled to Canada to work at the Sullivan Mine in Kimberley, B.C. He has since worked in Yellowknife and Pine Point, N.W.T and Sudbury, Ontario. He is now semi-retired and lives with his wife Sue in Cochrane, Alberta. They have three children and two grandchildren.

Martin began running in 2002, at the age of 47. His first race was the Sudbury 5km Sun Run in April 2003. In 2005 Martin completed a 4 month cycling expedition from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa. He has completed numerous races including marathons, ultra marathons and Ironman events.

In 2010, Martin ran 250 marathons and raised $287,000 for the children’s charity Right To Play. In June 2011, as an Athlete Ambassador, Martin will visit Right To Play schools in the West African Country of Benin.
