Leahy

Leahy

Leahy is made up of eight siblings of the incredibly talented Leahy family of Celtic instrumentalists (dominated by the fiddle), singers and step-dancers. Born and raised in Lakefield, Ontario, this Canadian group has been touring in Canada and internationally since the early 1980s.

The siblings were raised on a cattle farm with neither a TV nor any transportation to get them into town, so they took up playing music together as their parents and grandparents had. Originally playing as occasional guests for their parents’ band, they came to release their debut album as The Leahy Family in 1996. Their self-titled album Leahy hit #4 on the Billboard world music charts. They have played with The Chieftains at Massey Hall, and alongside such folk luminaries as Pete Seeger and Ani Difranco.

Now known simply as Leahy, the siblings have won 3 Junos. In 1985 they were the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary The Leahys: Music Most of All.
