Laura Kipnis

Kipnis is a cultural critic and theorist, the author most recently of Against Love: a Polemic. Her previous book was Bound and Gagged: Pornography and the Politics of Fantasy in America. She has also published numerous essays on topics related to sex and politics, capitalism and emotion, aesthetics and obscenity, as well as on “acting out” and bad behaviour. (Her book-in-progress is on scandal and its practitioners.)

Kipnis is a former video artist whose work has been shown and distributed internationally, including screenings at MOMA, The Whitney Museum, and the American Film Institute. She has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts and is a professor of media and cultural studies at Northwestern University.
