Judy Anderson

Judy Anderson

Dr. Judy Anderson is a “romantic anatomist” who investigates muscle repair growth and muscular dystrophy. She also teaches human anatomy, neuroscience, problem-solving and research methodology. Her role as both a teacher and researcher has won her local, national and international recognition.

Dr. Anderson’s new report on the switch mechanism that activates muscle precursor cells (the cells that can make new muscle after injury) has caught scientific and public attention: Turning off the switch reduces repair of injured muscle and turning it on increases the growth of normal muscle. Dr. Anderson’s discovery, bred of skepticism, transpositions and creative sparks, has broad potential applications that are the stuff of dreams.

Dr. Anderson is a research and professor at the University of Manitoba.
