Josh Freed

Josh Freed is an award winning, Montreal-based filmmaker, journalist and author.

In 2003, he was named Canada’s best newspaper columnist for his weekly column in the Montreal Gazette – his second win for this award in six years. He has also been nominated for both Geminis and Genies, and has won the World Medal for Investigative Reporting from the New York International Television Festival, and the Chris Award for Best North American Current Affairs Documentary for Blacklist.

Freed’s documentary films have been seen on CBC in Canada, PBS, A&E, Bravo and Disney Channel in the United States, Channel 4 in the UK, and in over 50 other countries.

His latest documentary, In Search of Sleep: An Insomniac’s Journey, debuted on CBC in June 2004, and followed Freed’s quest for a good night’s sleep. As a former on-camera journalist and director for CBC’s The Journal, he made over fifty 15-30 minute television documentaries.

Freed’s print work has earned him the 1995 Stephen Leacock Award, the National Newspaper Award for Best Canadian Feature Writer, and the National Business Writing Award for Best Investigative Journalist.

Josh Freed is also the author of several books, including Moonwebs and The Anglo Guide to Survival in Quebec.
