John Q. Walker

John Q. Walker is the president of Zenph Studios, a company building advanced software to understand and recreate how musicians actually play. He was also one of the co-founders of Ganymede Software in RTP which won “Best Product” and “Product of the Year” awards in 1999. John has co-authored two books: one on voice over IP (VOIP), the use of data networks to transfer digital telephone conversations, and on portable network programming. He has authored dozens of technical articles, and is frequently an invited speaker on practical networking and software engineering topics. He was also influential in the creation of the IEEE 802 local-area network (LAN) and 802.11 wireless LAN (“Wi-Fi”) standards.

Dr. Walker holds Bachelor degrees in piano and mathematics, and a Master of Science degree in computer science from Southern Illinois University. He pursued Master-level work in music performance at the University of Illinois, and he completed a Ph.D. in software engineering at the University of North Carolina, and was named a distinguished Graduate Alumnus at the UNC Graduate School’s centennial. Dr. Walker holds four patents.
