How can you row solo across the Atlantic and still not be satisfied? Ask John Beeden. At 53 years old, he set out from San Francisco, rowing a mere 15 hours a day, and made the 14,000 km trip to Australia , in doing so becoming the first person to row solo, non stop, continent to continent from North America to Australia.

John Beeden is a lifelong runner and lives in Burlington with his wife and two daughters. At 49 years old, looking for a new challenge, he decided to row solo from the Canaries to Barbados. The journey took 53 days, the second quickest crossing on record.

His second journey took him from North America to Australia in a record 209 days, during which he rowed an average of 15 hours a day. He is the only person to row solo, non stop from North America to Australia.
