Hershey Felder

Hershey Felder

Hershey Felder recently made his critically and popularly acclaimed Broadway debut as George Gershwin in his original one-man show George Gershwin Alone (which opened in April 2001). Not only did the show shatter box office records in Los Angeles and Florida, prior to taking Broadway, it was also the first time in theatrical history that the Gershwin heirs granted permission for the American musical icon to be portrayed on stage (Felder had to win the consensus of now fewer than seven Gershwin estate trustees before he was given the green light to mount the show.)

A native of Montreal, Felder had his first piano lessons at age 9. In 1988, at the age of 19, Felder made his concerto debut in Great Britain with George Gershwin’s “A Rhapsody in Blue” and has since played Gershwin’s opus 500 times worldwide. He continues to perform 40 chamber music and solo recitals each season and has appeared in numerous stage roles, including: Fiddler on the RoofMacbeth and Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. He is also a conductor, composer and director.
