I Furiosi

I Furiosi

The baroque ensemble I Furiosi has revolutionized the face of the Early Music world, shunning the traditional concert-going experience. The group, made up of four inspired and informed musicians (Felix Deak, violincello; Gabrielle McLaughlin, soprano; Aisslinn Nosky, violin; and Julia Wedman, violin), performs programs of music rarely heard on stage. According to the Globe and Mail, the group is “reviving Monteverdi, Handel and Merula, lending an art-rock sensibility to their otherwise serious baroque performances.”

Deak, the founding member, has performed with Toronto’s Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and can be heard on CBC Radio Two. McLaughlin attended McGill University in the Early Music Performance program and has been a member of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir. Nosky studied at the Glenn Gould Professional School of the Royal Conservatory of Music and has performed with the National Ballet Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Wedman performs frequently with the Canadian Opera Company, is a founding member of Seiler Strings and can be heard regularly on CBC Radio playing everything from early music to tangos. The group’s name, I Furiosi (The Furies), is taken from Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem, Orlando Furioso.
