Dennis Danielson

Dennis Danielson is Professor and incoming Head of English at the University of British Columbia. He is actively engaged in research linking the humanities and the sciences.

His work on the history of cosmology has received attention in both scientific and popular media. He is the author of several books including The Book of the Cosmos: Imagining the Universe from Heraclitus to Hawking and The First Copernican: Georg Joachim Rheticus and the Rise of the Copernican Revolution, the first ever biography in English of the discoverer and only “apostle” of Copernicus.

He has in recent years published in Nature, The American Journal of Physics, and Journal for the History of Astronomy. Upon completing a BA at the University of Victoria, he studied Intellectual History at the University of Sussex and then completed a PhD in English Literature at Oxford and Stanford in 1979. In 2002 Danielson was Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies.
