Denise Djokic

Denise Djokic

Denise Djokic has been described as one of the world’s best young cellists.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia, native caught the attention of the musical world three years ago at age 17, when she won prizes in both the Montreal Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Johansen International String Competition in Washington.

Critics and music judges have called her “confident and poised, with a virtually flawless technique.” She has appeared with the Ottawa, Regina, Toronto and Halifax orchestras, played at several recitals in the United States, and scooped up half a dozen or more prizes for her performances. She also was recently awarded the two-year use of the 1696 Bonjour Stradivarius cello, worth Cdn$6 million, by the Canadian Council.

Djokic lives with her musical family (her father is a music professor at Dalhousie University and her mother is a Pianist) in Halifax, and balances out her practice times with swimming and running.
