David Hanson

As CEO of Hanson Robotics, David Hanson has been called “head of his class” in social robotics and he creates robot faces that have been dubbed “among the most advanced in the world”.

He is responsible for the innovation of robots and their accompanying materials, such as Frubber, the robots’ internal mechanics and the software that gives them their capability to interact with humans. The secret behind Hanson’s ability to create such realism in his robots lies in his artistic background. He regards each robot as a four-dimensional sculpture: every action, expression, and movement is sculpted uniquely by the interaction between the mechanics underneath and the revolutionary polymer on the surface of the robot’s face, which are recognized as the most humanlike and realistic in the world today.

Hanson has received awards in both art and engineering, and has published in many periodicals and books including the book Biologically Inspired Intelligent Robotics.
