Laura Archer – The Importance of Compassion

Laura Archer tells the remarkable tale of her young life as a humanitarian, nurse, artist (and kidnap victim) working in refugee camps and bush clinics in various “scary places” in Africa.  When it became obvious to her that people at home did not really want to hear her stories of catastrophic suffering and lives saved, she “locked” herself in a studio with canvas and paint. Her many portraits of refugees and displaced persons, some of which we see here, give voice to their tumultuous and danger-filled lives. She makes a case for never losing compassion or the desire to help those in need.
