Dr. Shaf Keshavjee

With a passion for surgery and innovative research, Dr. Shaf Keshavjee has gained international recognition for the development of his lung preservation solution for donor lungs en route to transplantation. His work has led to an increase in the number of available donor lungs.

Dr. Keshavjee trained in General Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowship training at Harvard University and the University of London for airway surgery and heart-lung transplantation respectively.

Dr Keshavjee’s clinical practice is in thoracic oncology, lung cancer and lung transplantation. He is a scientist in the McEwen Center for Regenerative Medicine at UHN. He leads a team of researchers in a foremost research program and is widely published in the field.

Dr. Keshavjee has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree from Ryerson University, as well as an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Queen’s University. He was awarded the Order of Ontario and also received Canada’s highest civilian honour with an appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
