Back to the Future

As Dr. Brown most famously said “Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” In the film franchise Back To The Future today would have been the date and year that Dr. Brown & Marty McFly would have time travelled to in their souped up DeLeorean.

Over the years many of our idealists have dreamt big and have been inspired by what the future might hold. Check out the following talks and go back to the future!

In the film, one of the things that they discover in 2015 is flying cars and skyways. At ideacity 2013 we had idealist and aviation enthusiast Carl Dietrich join us to talk about making a flying car. Check out his talk and find out how you may be able to skip the 401 and just jet over to your office.

Although it isn’t technically a skyway, idealist Daryl Oster believes that vacuum tube transportation could be the next way we travel. Watch this talk to learn about how trains, planes and automobiles might become a thing of the past.

When the film came out in the late 80’s the idea of talking to someone on a computer or television seemed fantastical. Our next speaker Tasha McCauley decided to bring video chat, facetime and other forms of video conferencing to life by building a telepresence robot.

Although many people still complain that they want their flying car or hoverboard many of these inventions that Marty McFly witnessed on October 21, 2015 or ‘the future’ are becoming possible with through the work of these amazing idealists.
